The year wound down with a 3½-day jury trial against Stephen Barrett, MD who’s made a career out of attacking chiropractors and natural healers. For the first time, he went face to face with a chiropractor and was beaten. We beat him in court and now we’re scheduled for a hearing on December 20th in Allentown, PA. Barrett wants to appeal. Stay tuned for Round Two.
Barrett: “The New England Journal of Medicine published a study comparing the cost of low-back pain treatment by family physicians, orthopedists and chiropractors in North Carolina.… Although chiropractors charged less per visit, their treatment was costlier because they saw their patients about five times as often.” S. Barrett, MANAGED CARE. May 1996.
Koren: Barrett didn’t tell the whole story. He did not include the cost of prescription and non-prescription drugs, hospitalization and surgical costs that when added revealed medical care to be much higher than chiropractic care. Surprised?

The Big Day
The year began however on a different note, with one of the most meaningful experiences we’ve ever
had. It was preceded by years of intense study, preparation, organization and work. I’m referring to my son Seth’s bar mitzvah. Family, friends and loved ones helped make this day so memorable. Beth and I were very proud of him. His big day (January 22nd ) had a snowstorm that blanketed the area with over 18” giving us some great
photos. The post-party snowball fight at our house was also fun. What happens when a half-dozen kids jump on a trampoline filled with snow? Nothing! It’s too damn heavy.
Bird flu not very contagious or dangerous

China has given a clean bill of health to 41 people who came in contact with a woman who died of bird flu, state media said. The 35-year-old woman farmer developed pneumonia-like symptoms after coming in contact with sick and dead poultry and died November 22. She was the country's second confirmed human fatality from bird flu out of a population over one billion.
Bird flu is mostly occurring in rural areas, and sometimes in very remote mountainous areas where local health conditions are very poor. Any disease grows in a climate like that. But will that translate to Americans? Highly unlikely.
CCE cited for violations by U.S. Dept of Education – generates renewed calls for a 2nd accrediting agency
“After a two year Investigation The United States Department of Education (USDOE) has found the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) in violation of criteria necessary to maintain its status as a recognized accrediting agency…the CCE has been found in violation of so many major accrediting criteria it has been characterized as a major embarrassment for the entire chiropractic profession.” Read it all at www.planetc1.com.
AIDS day – playing with numbers
International AIDS day got a lot of press lately. The real tragedy is that after billions of dollars have been spent the medical profession has not saved a single life. No cure, no promised vaccine. That’s because AIDS is most likely caused by medical care, immunosuppressive therapies and unhealthy lifestyles. Millions of people whose death certificates, in the past, said that they died of tuberculosis, malnutrition, infection, pneumonia and “old age” are now diagnosed as dying from AIDS. The death numbers haven’t changed, only the diagnosis has. Why? Follow the money.
The same thing was done when the polio vaccine came out – the diagnostic criteria for polio was changed after the vaccine came on the market. It went from symptoms for two days to symptoms for two months. Since 95-99% of polio clears up on its own after a week or two (residual paralysis is extremely rare) polio “disappeared” after the vaccine came out.
So you see playing epidemiological games is not a new tactic and is still going on. (In the Letters section below re: AIDS I discuss the medical practice of renaming diseases and changing diagnostic criteria to fit their purposes).

Koren Specific Technique (KST) rolled out this year
In 2005 we unveiled KST. My discovery of this incredible adjusting technique permitted me to analyze and adjust myself, correcting a painful 25-year lumbo-sacral disc problem. After about 18 months adjusting mostly chiropractors and their families (many with serious complaints) and getting great results I decided to teach. We’ve had five classes so far and the feedback has been:
“Holy crap, what did you just do to me?" “A patient come in today with a 20 year history of issues. The last five years lots of sciatica, MRI's, X-rays, surgical consults, Chiropractors, physio's the works. After her first adjustment she says, "holy crap, what did you just do to me?" The expression on her face was one of amazement. The pain and numbness in her foot were gone.” Jake Less adjusting. “I have noticed a great deal LESS adjusting using KST. My patients come to get checked and they are virtually clear after my first one or two KST adjustments.” Brett Nadel, DC
First time pain free. “I have seen this patient for a year. This morning he said, "Yesterday was the first time I walked out of your office pain free." This was the very first patient I did KST on. I was skeptical reading all your testimonials, but the results have convinced me.” John Collins, DC
Panic attack. “I had an urgent new patient – someone who another patient literally 'dragged' in. This lady was in the middle of a huge (more or less permanent) panic attack - sweating, hyperventilating - the lot. I didn't follow my normal routine with physical exam, sEMGs etc - she was really beyond all that. I just made a few light, simple adjustments. The change was immediate - I mean everything changed, her colour came back, her breathing deepened, but what really impressed me was when I saw her on Monday, what a change! Trip to Israel
We went to Israel in June. I even got to speak to the Israeli Chiropractic Society and met people I will 
never forget. Was I “nervous” about the trip? As soon as we took off from JFK in NY I calmed down.
Before we left the rabbi told us an old story: “A tour guide said to a group of tourists in Israel: ‘You see that old man sitting there? Well if you look to his right and above you’ll see a magnificent Roman arch.’
“However what is more important is if the tour guide said, ‘You see that Roman arch? Well if you look down and to the left you’ll see an old man who came here, worked and helped create this wonderful and exciting country. He speaks five languages and prays regularly for peace and for the coming of the messiah.’
“So remember, amongst all the wondrous sights in this ancient modern land, none are more wondrous than the people. When we understand that the Age of Enlightenment and Peace will be closer at hand.”

Tedd, I think the way you presented the doctors not vaccinating their kids is a distortion of the article. The article is quite critical of those doctors and states that they obviously don't understand, but some more education of Swiss physicians might help solve the problem. Dave
Dear Dave, The article says that MDs are refusing vaccines for their children and they're doing it for the same reasons that lay parents are refusing vaccines. When lay parents don't vaccinate their kids, the medical response is: 'they're stupid' (i.e. misinformed, uneducated). When MDs don't vaccinate their kids what's the medical response? "They're stupid." When researchers stand up against vaccination what the medical response? "They're stupid." (Sometimes they add dishonest, corrupt, etc.)
But ask this: What research did the authors of the study do to show that the MDs are stupid? None! People who don't support vaccination are usually better educated about the issue. Of course the piece was slanted. MDs are dishonest re: vaccination. Tedd

Bird shit on windshield. In reading the current newsletter, I was disappointed to read the symptoms of bird flu and the windshield entry placed in an area outside of the humor category. I consider myself just as humorous as the next but reading those words seemed to minimize the real fear some are having. Eric

Killer Subluxations on the way? My local paper has put out such horror stories on the bird flu, it's unbelievable…The paper even went so far to say the ducks around our local lake are all carriers of avian flu even if they are not sick. Follow the money. It's a great way to stir up business. They’ll use all the pandemic headlines next year when they tell us we were lucky in 2005/2006 but in 2006/2007 we're going to get hit with Cornish hen flu, Turkey flu, mosquito flu, then the pigeon flu….etc. But by that time we’ll be so full of mercury/aluminum induced Alzheimer’s no one will notice.

In an old folks home recently one woman was overheard saying, "I may have Alzheimer's but at least I don't have Alzheimer's!" ... what rocket scientist came up with the idea of asking Alzheimer pts if they could remember getting flu shots? – Michael J. Koch, DC
The Alzheimer's study was smart. It was designed to prove the flu shot wasn't related to the disease and it did. It was junk science. You don’t ask Alzheimer’s patients if they remember getting the flu shot. The study belonged on the humor pages, not in a medical journal where it was accepted for publication. The tragic thing is that the media reported it as real science. I wish reporters would learn to be as critical of medical research as they are of politicians and chiropractors. Tedd
Having taken care of any number of AIDS patients…most of whom died in the early years 85-89 after just a few months…I have to take issue with this article. These deaths are not the result of a "scam". There were no drugs to take in the beginning, and many otherwise healthy people died. The medical-industrial complex that drugs each HIV+ person didn't help. Neither did Chiropractic, good diet, or healthy living. Very difficult question to deal with, virulent infection and natural health care. Best wishes – Doug Ross, DC
You write that “otherwise healthy people” died of AIDS. That is impossible. Healthy people don’t get AIDS. People with severe immunosupression are not healthy. This is an excellent illustration of the medical paradigm vs. chiropractic/natural healthcare paradigm. While medical doctors can consider a person otherwise healthy who develops cancer or suffers a stroke or has AIDS chiropractors, homeopaths, acupuncturists, naturopaths and other natural healers would undoubtedly see more subtle imbalances (subluxations, mind/body disturbances, meridian imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, toxicity) and address these years before the medical profession would see a problem.
By the way, I also took care of people who died of AIDS in those same years. The article deals with the fact that HIV does not cause AIDS and HIV positive people can and do live in perfect health for decades. People have suffered and died from immunodeficiency diseases however AZT and similar drugs don't work and in fact are the reason why so many people died of AIDS. I recommend “Inventing the AIDS Virus" by Peter Duesberg and “AIDS and Syphilis” by Harris Coulter (Coulter’s great book is out of print but we still have copies at Koren Publications.) Tedd

The Divorce
Early December a man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough."
"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.
"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the father says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her."
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "No way they're getting divorced!" she shouts, "I'll take care of this." She calls Phoenix immediately and screams at her father, "You are not getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.
The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says, "they're coming for the holidays and paying their own way."
New Element Discovered
A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element has been named the "GOVERNMENTIUM."
GOVERNMENTIUM has 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 11 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since GOVERNMENTIUM has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of GOVERNMENTIUM causes 1 reaction to take over 4 days to complete, when it would normally take less than a second.
GOVERNMENTIUM has a normal 1/2-life of 4 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, GOVERNMENTIUM's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to believe that GOVERNMENTIUM is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as "Critical Morass".
When catalyzed with money, GOVERNMENTIUM becomes Administratium - an element that radiates just as little energy, since it has 1/2 as many peons but twice as many morons.
