Alas
poor Yorick!
He who loses wealth loses much; he who loses a friend loses more; but he that
loses his courage loses all. – Miguel de Cervantes
Spring is coming. The sun is stronger every day. I wake up and it’s already
light out (well, some mornings). March is the most difficult month for me – I’m
so tired of winter by then. I think that it’s the perfect month for a vacation.
If you time it right, when you leave the ground is frozen and when you get back
home flowers are starting to appear and it’s April. So why does T.S. Eliot call
April the cruelest month?

The Flexner Report
The
great medical historian Harris Coulter, Ph.D. in his book Divided Legacy (Vol.
4) demolishes the myth that the Flexner Report of 1910 improved medical
education. Its purpose was to do nothing of the kind; rather it was to destroy
homeopathic and other non-allopathic medical colleges. It succeeded and helped
create the allopathic monolith that is now the number one cause of death in the
US. As Coulter reports:
The 1910 Report of the Carnegie Endowment for the Advancement of Teaching,
commonly known as the “Flexner Report” after its principal author, Abraham
Flexner…marked a new era in condemning the separate system of homoeopathic
schools and thus helping ensure its subsequent decline.
The involvement of the Carnegie Endowment however was largely for
public-relations purposes, as the Report was co-authored and heavily influenced
by Nathan Colwell, chairman of the AMA’s Council on Medical Education. A later
AMA publication noted: “Colwell provided far more guidance in this famous survey
than is generally known.”
In the 1920s and 1930s the fourteen homoeopathic medical schools in the
United States dwindled to zero…. Homoeopathy was branded a “healing cult.” In
the 1850s American allopathy declared the homoeopaths frauds and imposters
without ever testing the homoeopathic remedies. Sound familiar?
Note: Divided Legacy (Vol 4) by Harris L. Coulter, Ph.D. is the best book on
medical history I ever read; it changed my life. I cannot recommend it more
highly. It is available from Koren Publications at

The
Significance of Dr. Tedd Koren’s Courtroom Defeat of Quackbuster Steven Barrett
On October 13, 2005, notorious self-proclaimed consumer medical advocate Stephen
Barrett’s defamation lawsuit against Dr. Tedd Koren was thrown out of court
after a grueling three and a half day trial. To the unknowing observer, this may
seem insignificant, but in no uncertain terms, it was a big victory in the
battle for healthcare freedom and the right of all individuals to select the
healthcare of their choice.

Royal Canadian Air Farce
Really funny Canadian piece on the flu shot from the Royal Canadian Air Farce.

In Memoriam
With all the sadness in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the
death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed recently.
Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at the age
of 93.
The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put
his left leg in. And then the trouble started.
Shut up. You know it's funny. Now send it on to someone else and make them
smile.
Tedd Koren interview in The American
Chiropractor
(That’s me in the middle.)
I’ve always liked The American Chiropractor. It’s a publication all DCs should
subscribe to. I’ll be writing regularly for them and my appearance there was
kicked-off by an interview. Check it out at:
www.theamericanchiropractor.com/index.asp
Do you want him (and his friends) telling
you how to practice?
Many of you know that Koren Publications was attacked by the Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) in an attempt to destroy all chiropractic education.
Fortunately, consumer groups in the US (as well as many chiropractors and the
ICA) saw the danger and came to our defense. Dr. John Triano however responded
by agreeing with the FTC and telling doctors not to support our legal battle.
But hey…life goes on. So does John Triano who is now working in the
re-incarnation of the discredited Mercy Guidelines: The Council on Chiropractic
Guidelines and Practice Parameters or CCGPP.
He and a group of mechanistic (medical model) chiropractors want to tell us how
to practice and what is acceptable chiropractic. They think subluxation-based
care is “Impractical, implausible, or even indefensible from a purely scientific
point of view.”
They dismiss preventive care as “unproven and unlikely to be true…not
defensible” and cap off all this pseudo-intellectual masturbation by concluding,
“The vast majority of human health problems that require an intervention do not
fall within the chiropractic therapeutic spectrum.”
These people have no understanding of Chiropractic’s vitalistic principles nor
do they see chiropractic as part of the natural healthcare movement. Instead
they wish to marginalize us under the medical model as musculoskeletal
therapists.
Do you want these people to tell you how to practice? Do you want them to advise
the insurance industry? With friends like these…. Doesn’t he sound like Steven
Barrett, MD, the Quackbuster? When it comes to CCGPP just say, “No, thank you.”

How about better guidelines for orthopedic
surgeons?
“It was obvious to me that vast majorities of people suffering from chronic pain
were actually the result of unnecessary back surgery. In one study, I
demonstrated that at least 80% of those who had had lumbar surgery for a
presumed ruptured disc had not had a ruptured disc before their first surgery.”

for chronic back pain and sciatica. Journal of Neurosurgery. 1975;43:448-451.
Shealy continues: “By the time they [the patients] had between 5 and 7
unsuccessful back operations, they certainly were invalids.” C. Norman Shealy,
MD, PhD. Chronic pain management. Townsend Letter for Doctors & Patients. Jan
2005;22.

And orthopods have the nerve to say Chiropractic is dangerous?
Cancer Chemotherapy Worthless?
Perhaps it is worse than worthless. An extensive survey to quantify the actual
benefit of cancer chemotherapy concluded that chemotherapy contributes just over
2% to improved survival in US patients.
An interview with Dr. Graeme Morgan, author of the study, is most revealing:
“We were sick and tired of hearing about these new drugs and it wasn’t really
cementing into anything. And the reason for my doing the paper was to really
show that there hasn’t been any improvement in survival, or the improvement has
been very, very modest despite all these new drugs and new combinations and bone
marrow transplants.”
Tedd Koren comments: And that doesn’t include those killed by the chemo.
What’s the net gain? It may be a net loss.

A Poster for Every Office
Draw on it, wipe it off – show them where they are subluxated and what organs
and body parts may be affected.
This is one of our most popular posters – The Vital Connection. It can be
purchased separately or as a set with identical pads so patients can take home a
copy and show it to their family. Every adjusting room and office needs these.

The vaccines work great, as long as the kids don’t get sick…
Mumps outbreak at camp among immunized children
An outbreak of mumps occurred in a New York summer camp despite the fact that
all of the children involved had adequate vaccination coverage, according to the
Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
Thirty-one cases of mumps (5.7% of the camp population) were reported of which
12 cases were among campers vaccinated with two doses of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR)
vaccine after their first birthday. Of the 19 cases among staff members,
vaccination was documented for only eight of those affected. Dr. K. Henry of the
Sullivan County Health Department reported that symptoms, illness duration, and
complications were the same for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

Letters
Way to go Tedd re: your cartoon blog about the Mohammed cartoon. (Name withheld
for fear of reprisal)
Isn’t it the very fear you speak of that sends people to us too? In hopes that
we can perform some miracle that the medics can’t? Unfortunately, there isn’t an
answer to the riddle of life, there is no potion making us immortal; not even
close. All we can do is care for ourselves the best way we choose; the rest is
out of our hands. rotcodnelg@...
I'd like us to empower people so they have a hand in their own fate. Under
medicine, when cancers, heart disease, etc. are found the result is often an
expensive, useless and painful experience; sometimes a death sentence. I would
like us to give them hope and options, something medicine sorely lacks. Tedd
Vaccines needed to go to chiropractic college
I called Western States Chiropractic College the other day and said I was a
prospective student and was it true that I had to be vaccinated before they
would accept me. They transferred me to admissions and then to the health office
and both places read from the catalogue, which they're sending me--and here's
what it said—“yes, in accordance with ‘State law’ each student had to have at
least 2 measles shot, one of which had to be after 1989 (!) and also 3 Hepatitis
B shots prior to admission. This is scary---there can't possibly be a state law
that would have a stricter requirement for college students than for kids, could
there? And of course not a word about exemption...and everyone just follows
along like sheep. Tim O'Shea,DC
The real cause of SIDS – media stupidity
Ann Curry on the Today Show reported with great credibility that the medical
community has determined that use of a pacifier in infants reduces the risk of
SIDS as much as 90%! The cause of SIDS is insufficient pacifier use!!! This was
just so crazy that I had to tell you about it…. Even my wife, who I have been
exposing more and more to the chiropractic philosophy since the birth of our
first child this year, came out and said, "That's crazy! You know that the
highest incidence of SIDS is between 2-4 months. That's when kids get a ton of
immunizations at the pediatrician." My wife even gets it now. Jeffrey Wack, DC
Bird flu infectious
Dr Koren, What is the point of the newsletter clip claiming bird flu is not very
dangerous? The fact that people exposed to an infected woman did not get
sick proves nothing; the virus has not yet developed the ability to be
transmitted effectively or at all between people. Only when that happens will we
learn just how dangerous it might be. Until then, let's not as DC's go around
downplaying it and sounding uninformed. Ron
Tedd Koren responds: There is no historical or scientific evidence that a
horrible bird flu is coming. I'm the one being informed and scientific. The drug
companies are scaring everyone to make loads of money. They say there is a
terribly infectious flu out there. Where? So far the H5N1 virus has killed 65
people over eight years? That's a dangerous flu?

New Husband Store
A store that sells new husbands has just opened in New York City, where a woman
may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a
description of how the store operates.
You may visit the store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the attributes of
the men increase as the shopper ascends the flights.
There is, however, a catch: you may choose any man from a particular floor, or
you may choose to go up a floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the
building!
So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband.
On the first floor the sign on the door reads: Floor 1 - These men have jobs.
The second floor sign reads: Floor 2 - These men have jobs and love kids.
The third floor sign reads: Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love kids, and are
extremely good looking.
"Wow," she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.
She goes to the fourth floor and sign reads: Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love
kids, are drop-dead good looking and help with the housework.
"Oh, mercy me!" she exclaims, "I can hardly stand it!"
Still, she goes to the fifth floor and sign reads: Floor 5 - These men have
jobs, love kids, are drop-dead gorgeous, help with the housework, and have a
strong romantic streak.
She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor and the sign reads:
Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this
floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please.
Thank you for shopping at the New Husband Store.
New Wives Store
A new wives store opened across the street.
The first floor has wives that love sex.
The second floor has wives that love sex and have money.
The third through sixth floors have never been visited.

Bye – see you next month. Feel free to write to me at
tkoren@korenpublications.com.
I hope to see you at a seminar soon.
