At the local post office…

True story. Long line at the post office…of course, it’s holiday time. Anyway our postmaster’s (postmistress’s) MD is in front of me. I thought there was going to be a big fight. She’s telling him, in increasingly animated tones, how she still feels terrible since the last time she saw him. She now has these intestinal pains; is it an ulcer? He told her it’d be better after a few days on this drug and it’s now a few weeks and she’s still miserable. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

The MD is not fazed in the least. He smiles and says, “Well dear, that’s how most people get better but I guess you are unique.” He starts laughing. And then she starts laughing and people in the post office join in too. They’re still chuckling as he leaves. I’m wondering, “What’s the joke? This cat failed and everyone thinks he’s funny?” Then I realized what it’s all about. He’s the MD (medical deity). It doesn’t matter whether he gets people better or not. Medicine is not about clinical success; in fact, as a population we pay more and get less – we’re sicker than ever. The clinical failures are overlooked because medicine is considered good and useful no matter what the reality.

And the scene in the post office was pretty surreal.

What a strange religion medicine makes. It's the only religion that is federally backed, and that can't be questioned openly without persecution. – Julie D., mother of two children with vaccine-induced autism

Become psychic with KST?

Become psychic? Not exactly, but it sometimes seems that way. This is a true story – in fact, it happened yesterday and by the end of this brief, 3-minute exam he was almost speechless.

He wasn’t a new patient.

I had an appointment with him on a totally unrelated matter. In the course of our meeting he asked me what I did. I told him. He said he had a lot of problems no one’s been able to correct.

I said, “Well, let me check something. Stand up and turn your back to me. Just face the window.”

I asked priorities. “Below waist?” No. “Above waist? Yes. “Cranials?” Yes.

I started checking cranials by hand. Yes, I could do it all mentally but I like to mix mental and physical analysis.

“Your left and right sphenoid wings are anterior and your occiput is inferior. Anterior sphenoids are associated with headache, migraine, depression, moodiness, vision problems and insomnia among other things.”

“Wow, that’s pretty much me,” he said.

“Your right temporal bone is anterior. Do you ever get hearing problems, dizziness, ringing?”

“Sometimes I get ringing in my right ear.”

“Your right parietal is inferior, you had a head trauma.”

“Nothing recent that I can recall.”

(I ask the body.) “This happened around age 11.”

“Yes, I had run into a wall and actually was unconscious briefly.”

“Well, it’s still in your body.”

I continue with the analysis. “Your sternum is off-center to the right. Do you ever get heart palpitations, heart skips a beat?”

“Yes, on occasion.”

“You have a hump pattern.”

“What’s that?”

“This bump or hump on the bottom of your neck and upper back puts pressure on the heart, lungs and thyroid. Don’t worry, my wife had one much worse and it disappeared in about three weeks. Your head is off-center forwards. Your body is trying to pull your head back so you probably have lower back pain because your lower back is working overtime.”

“Yes, my lower back hurts all the time.”

“Your hyoid bone is out of position. The hyoid is under your tongue and can cause voice, throat, swallowing, snoring and similar problems if it’s out of position.”

“I sometimes lose my voice.”

“Your pubic bones are inferior and your femur heads or thigh bones are anterior or forwards. All your energy is working to keep you from falling down so you’re probably tired a lot.”

“I’m exhausted all the time, can you help all this?”

“Sure.”

“I, I, I’m just amazed. Are you accepting more patients? I’d like to see you. Can I bring my wife and children? Also I’ve got a few friends who need this. Can you give me some business cards.”

It was just then I realized that I’ve got to start carrying business cards.

Note: This person had been seeing a local chiropractor regularly for years.

I can’t resist showing you these KST testimonials. Read them and decide if you’d like to know how to do this yourself.

Dying puppy. I wish I had learned KST sooner. One of the wonderful exciting results was a patient’s 2-week-old puppy (sole survivor of a litter) that was failing to thrive and wasn’t going to make it. After one KST adjustment he started eating THAT NIGHT, gained 2 ounces and slept peacefully. After his 2nd adjustment he gained another 2 ounces and started walking! I'm jumping out of my skin with excitement!! No thank you seems adequate, but THANK YOU!! Gregory A. Landau, DC

Family finally fixed. I adjusted my husband, and he slept for the first night in weeks in our own bed. He has been having trouble breathing at night and he ends up down on the couch every night.
For months my four-year-old son has also been having trouble sleeping and ends up in our bed every night! He has huge tonsils and has trouble breathing at night, He snores loudly and is in continuous motion. He also has nightmares and 'night terrors'. Adjusting his chronic right atlas helped, but it never stayed put! He also hates getting adjusted because it hurts! Well, he LOVED getting adjusted KST…thought that was really cool!!! And it didn't hurt! His usual right atlas wasn't there. He slept in his own bed quietly for the first night in months!
Also, I am LOVING being able to adjust myself. What an amazing thing. Yesterday morning, even though I slept great and wasn't clenching my teeth anymore, my right shoulder was hurting again and I was having some trouble breathing. (After you adjusted me in Atlanta, I noticed that I was breathing deeper than I have in years!) I went straight downstairs (after noticing how much younger I looked!) and adjusted myself again. The shoulder immediately felt better and I've been breathing deeper ever since. Man this is powerful stuff!! It's kind of hard to convince myself that it really works this well, but it keeps proving it every day!! AWESOME!! Tammy Karp, DC

Psychic powers? Excellent adjustments! Some patients thought I was psychic as I uncovered things they said nothing to me about. We are thrilled with KST! Christopher Rechter, DC

Headaches. My wife who is a nurse has chronic headaches and monthly migraines. One KST adjustment and her headache went away. This may not seem like much but I had not been able to help her headaches for 15 years. Dr. Mark

Self adjusting. For months I’ve had retro-sternal pain that wasn't going away. When you went over the sternum at the seminar I checked myself immediately, got a positive and adjusted my sternum and the pain went away. That one little thing was worth the whole seminar to me. I wonder how many folks would have been running to their MDs and getting all the tests to no avail. Brad Miller, DC

Hooked. More and more practice members are seeing changes in their life. Several with wacky dreams, almost all sleeping better, a lady stopped limping and didn’t even know it until she realized it much later, and diarrhea for about 24 hours in a 1½ year old who I adjusted starting when he was 2 days old for constipation.
Some people just have a hard time putting their finger on it – why KST is so different! About a third return on the second visit demanding KST and everyone else is hooked after the third visit. Shawn Pomeroy, DC

More fun practicing. I'm having more fun and feeling more important than all of my 46 years of practice previous to becoming a KST Chiropractor. I am more excited and full of pride than ever, and for years I saw 60 to 75 patients a day and occasionally 100 or more. I am 72-years-old and can hardly wait to get to the office each day. Jack Ogden, DC

Words of wisdom

There is only one way to bring people closer to truth, whether your friend, your spouse, your child or a complete stranger. It is not with rebuke, not with arguments, not with intellectual games – but by drawing them with thick cords of love, by showing your faith in who they are and with real deeds. – Lubavitcher Rebbe

Feng Shui hints for chiropractors

Your business signs should never be understated. The bigger and clearer the better, and more information is the rule. Just because you know what you do, and the benefits you can provide, your potential patients won’t know that unless you tell them, and the primary way that you get to do that, at least initially, is through your signs. If they have to be placed where visibility is an issue, then use high contrast colors, like yellow and black, red and white, yellow and blue or white and blue. Use strong letters with enough thickness so that the letters are readable from a distance. Before you commit to a sign, make a mockup and test it out. That sign is going to be up there for a long time, hopefully, so you want to make very sure that it is going to be effective at attracting new patients to your practice. Drs. Ralph & Lahni DeAmicis, Environmental Business Designers. Learn more at www.spaceandtime.com

What do most asthmatics die from?

Asthma drugs. Researchers from Stanford and Cornell Universities reviewed 19 studies involving nearly 34,000 patients and found that people using popular drug inhalers for asthma (Serevent™, Advair™, Foradil™) were 2.5 times more likely to be hospitalized for severe asthma attacks and 3.5 times more likely to die. Five thousand people die each year from asthma (US) and about 4,000 of these deaths are caused by these drugs. [Salpeter SR et al. Meta-analysis: Effect of long-action B-agonists on severe asthma exacerbations and asthma-related deaths. Ann Internal Medicine. 2006;144:904-912.]

Antibiotics not needed for ear and eye infections, say researchers

Two recent studies show that two common conditions that were thought to definitely need antibiotics – middle ear infections and conjunctivitis (pink eye) in kids – don't really need them at all. The studies conclude that without antibiotics, children get better anyway. Read this report at http://www.abc.net.au/health/thepulse/s1748158.htm

Flu shots contain mercury

A survey of over 9,000 Americans found that most had no idea flu shots contain mercury. "More than 75 percent of Americans feel a mercury-containing flu shot should not be given to a pregnant woman or a child," said Lisa Handley, a founding parent of PutChildrenFirst.org, the group that organized the survey. Handley's own son, Jamison, had an adverse reaction to a flu shot containing mercury in 2003. "I know firsthand how life-changing a flu shot with mercury can be, since our son began his regression into autism after his flu shot." In 1999, government agencies called for the removal of thimerosal, the mercury-based preservative in most vaccines. In 2001, the American Academy of Pediatrics stated that, "mercury in all of its forms is toxic to the fetus and children." Despite these actions, it’s in 90% of flu vaccines and it’s recommended for pregnant women! Learn more at: http://www.organicconsumers.org/2006/article_3400.cfm

Dangerous flu vaccination during pregnancy also useless

“We were unable to demonstrate that maternal influenza vaccination reduces respiratory illness visit rates among their infants. Influenza vaccination for pregnant women expecting to deliver during influenza season does not seem to reduce the occurrence of respiratory illness in their newborn infant. Maternal influenza vaccination did not significantly affect infant outpatient and inpatient visits for acute respiratory illness.”
Therefore – researchers recommended vaccination anyway (?????).

Read this before saying yes to a bypass, angioplasty or stents

“About 1.6 million Americans undergo heart bypass surgery, angioplasty or stent procedures annually – even though there’s no evidence that these procedures prolong life or prevent future heart attacks in the majority of patients.
“The three-year survival rate for most patients who have had bypass surgery is almost exactly the same as it is for patients with heart disease who don’t have surgery.
“The vast majority of patients with heart disease can reduce the risk of a future heart attack by up to 80% - without undergoing expensive and risky procedures.
“Most bypass and stent procedures are the equivalent of cosmetic cardiology. They make blood vessels appear healthy but do little to reduce heart attack risk. In fact, most heart attacks are caused by tiny blockages that can be hard to detect – and these blockages often are not in the blood vessels that triggered all the concern in the first place. The mortality from bypass surgery ranges from 3%-5%. More than 50% of patients may experience cognitive difficulties, and patients who have bypass surgery are nearly four times more likely to suffer a subsequent stroke. These are poor odds for procedures that don’t necessarily prolong life or make patients healthier.”
Michael D. Ozner, MD, Bottom Line Personal, August 1, 2006; p.1.

It happens

Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship. Since it was also before commercial fertilizer was invented, large shipments of manure were common. Manure was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less, but once water (at sea) hit it, not only did it become heavier, but the process of fermentation began, of which a byproduct is methane gas. Methane began to build up below deck and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening.

After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term "Ship High In Transit" on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.
Thus evolved the term S.H.I.T., which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day. You probably did not know the true history of this word. Neither did I. I always thought it was a golf term.

How to Handle a Rumor: The Test of Three

Keep this philosophy in mind the next time you either hear or are about to repeat a rumor.

In ancient Greece (469 - 399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom. One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?"

"Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Test of Three."

"Three?"

"That's right, Socrates continued, "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to test what you're going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

“No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's True or not."

"Now let's try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him even though you're not certain it's true?"

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued. "You may still pass though, because there is a third test – the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be Useful to me?"

"No, not really..."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?"

The man was defeated and ashamed. This was the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.

It also explains why Socrates never found out that Plato was cavorting with his wife.

See you next month.
